In the past years Ori may he rest in peace had a special tradition named " delivery of a mitzvah ", where each family donates a Purim meal to another family or more with little financial ability in Sderot. The donator gives the credit of a value delivery as opposed to the traditional Mishloach Manot via postcard attached to the delivery where it is written – " we gave in your name a Purim meal to a little financial ability family in Sderot".
Here are a few examples of postcards in Hebrew and English that you can print and attach to a package. According to the Jewish halacha the donator doesn't fulfill one's obligation in donating to the poor but the receiver does. The cost of this meal is 120 NIS. There isn't an obligation to transfer the money before Purim, you can transfer it after Purim. The money can be transferred in a few ways, the following are a few options to donate a Purim meal:
A donation in the sum of 120 NIS for one meal: Donate
A donation in the sum of 240 NIS for two meals: Donate
A donation in the sum of 360 NIS for three meals: Donate
A donation in the sum of 480 NIS for four meals: Donate
A donation in another sum that you wish to donate choose your sum in the column in addition you can donate via bank transfer to Pagi bank, Netivot branch (173) account number 6734 in the name of Mercaz Hesed Sderot.
On Yom Kippur it is customary to have a ritual in which you would take a chicken or sum of money, spin on top of your head and say " this is my expiation, this is my suit" and a few other Psukim to ward off a bad sentence and pass it on to the chicken or sum of money and save the soul from the bad sentence. In the past generations many have objected to the custom claiming it is animal cruelty, and thus the sum of money was accepted in many places. Since the sum of money is donated for charity reasons it can be donated to the Mercaz Hesed Sderot non-profit organization which is a suitable address for the expiation sums since it will be passed on to hundreds of little financial ability families in Sderot.
Gifts for paupers is one of the mitzvas of Purim and its main purpose is giving two gifts to two poor paupers, a gift to each pauper on that very day! As it says in Esther's scroll chapter 9 pasuk 22 " to make them happy feastful days with mishloach manot gifted from man to another and gifts for paupers". In Ramb"am scroll Halachot it says: it is preferable for someone to gift the paupers more than his own meal or mishloach manot to his friend, because there is no happiness like rejoicing poor hearts orphans, widows and converts, because whoever rejoices those who are depressed is similar to the divine spirit as it says: " resurrect a vile spirit and revive a depressed heart". If you wish to gift a pauper, please donate to the Mercaz Hesed Sderot that donates on Purim the very day hundreds of food baskets to poor families in Sderot.
In the past the charity institute was very organized, in each city and Jewish community there were community leaders in charge of distributing food and clothes to the poor and incompetent. As Passover approaches a holiday when matzos are only made with Passover kosher flour it was up to the leaders to announce about a special fundraiser to bake matzos for the poor. This fundraiser was named wheat dues – money to purchase wheat, or the Aramaic name Kimcha Depischa. Today a little bit of flour and matzos isn't enough, there many families that the poverty line isn’t only a line but a sad reality, especially with such a familial holiday like Passover we need to give generously and do as much as we can to make sure every Jew has a happy and kosher Passover.
